Scholarships and Financial Support
Students in Odisha can look at several kinds of support. Eligibility, amounts and deadlines change every year, so check each scheme's official portal:
State scholarships for Odisha students through the state scholarship portal.
Central schemes on the National Scholarship Portal (scholarships.gov.in), including category-specific and merit-cum-means scholarships.
Institutional scholarships at universities such as KIIT, SOA and XIM University, usually linked to entrance rank or academic merit.
Education loans from banks through the Vidya Lakshmi portal, with interest subsidy schemes for eligible students.
Location and Connectivity
Odisha borders West Bengal, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh, which keeps travel times manageable for many students from neighbouring states. Bhubaneswar has an international airport, Bhubaneswar and Cuttack are major railway stops on the east-coast corridor, and the National Highway network connects the main university towns.
Pillar Insight
Institutions outside Bhubaneswar — Sambalpur, Rourkela, Berhampur, Koraput, Gunupur — can involve longer travel. Check the exact campus location, not just the city name.
Cost of Living: What to Budget
Living costs in Odisha's university towns are generally moderate compared with large metros, but they vary with city, accommodation type and lifestyle. Build your own budget rather than relying on averages:

| Expense | What to check |

| Hostel / PG | Campus hostel availability, room type, AC vs. non-AC, deposit |
| Food | Mess charges vs. eating out |
| Local transport | Distance from campus to city, bus/auto availability |
| Travel home | Train/flight frequency and cost during holidays |
| Study costs | Laptop, books, certification courses |
